Technology has become necessary in most aspects of our lives. We rely on our computers and smart phones to research, pay bills, run businesses, listen to music, and more. Of course, we want our devices to be fast and accurate. When it comes to our businesses, it’s not just a want, but a need. Systems, in any form, need to be dependable for our lives and businesses to run smoothly.  Below are some tips to make sure that you are keeping your technological operations are up to par.

When purchasing a new computer, smart phone or any other electronic, be sure it’s from a company that has stellar support. There’s nothing worse than having a problem with your components and no one to help fix it. do your homework. Search for reviews not only on the product itself but also on their customer service. At the very least, hire an outside company or IT person to handle all your technical needs.

Sometimes there are simple things we can do to optimize tech performance. Yet, we don’t. Make a habit of checking for updates on programs or apps on your devices. There are usually settings you can utilize that will automatically perform updates so you don’t have to remember. These scheduled updates can be customized for times when you’re typically not using the devices so they don’t interrupt your work.

Another thing we neglect to think of is how we power our equipment. Be certain you are using surge protectors that are up to the task of charging your gadgets. Insufficient power supply can be a fire hazard and can fry your equipment.  Using cords that are designed for your specific device(s) is equally important. Manufacturers create power adapters with the proper voltage. Using cords that have too little or too much can cause major issues with your products.

Chances are that you may have, at one time or another, lost work you spent a lot of time on. It’s frustrating and costs us time and money. The good news is that there’s an easy solution. Save your work! It’s vital to have a backup system that automatically saves your work. You may be diligent about saving your work manually. However, there are circumstances where you lose power which turns in to lost work. Using components such as a USB drive, Cloud, Google Drive, etc. will alleviate the headaches that come with losing work.

Finally, be sure your security is up to date. Not only will this protect you, but will also protect your customers and employees. We put significant information into our devices; social security numbers, credit card information, health records, and more. When that information gets into the wrong hands, it can be catastrophic. Good cybersecurity is an absolute must! Don’t take shortcuts in this area!

While technology can be a headache and overwhelming, it also simplifies our lives in many ways. Embrace it but be attentive to it as well. If you take care of it, it will take care of you.
